COLLEGE PARK, Md. - After splitting a pair of games with ranked opponents last week, the Maryland field hockey squad (14-3, 2-2 ACC) held on to the three-spot in Oct. 24's 2000 STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) poll. The Terps conclude the regular season with a meeting with unranked Richmond and a Senior Day salute at the Artificial Turf Facility on Sunday, Oct. 29.
Eight of this week's Top 15 teams can be found on Maryland's 2000 slate. The Terps punished No. 10 Connecticut, 9-1 (Aug. 26), outlasted No. 1 Old Dominion 5-4 in 2OT (Sept. 3) and blanked No. 8 Massachusetts, 2-0 (Sept. 16), No. 6 Princeton, 2-0 (Sept. 28), No. 9 Virginia, 5-0 (Oct. 1) and No. 14 James Madison (Oct. 20). The Terps suffered a loss at the hands of No. 4 Wake Forest (Sept. 23) before being edged by No. 1 ODU in a Norfolk rematch on Oct. 15 and nipped, 1-0 in overtime by No. 2 North Carolina on Oct. 22. The Terps had taken the previous three meetings with both the Monarchs and the Tar Heels before the losses.
