COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
The reigning national and 2000 ACC champion Maryland Terrapins (17-3) have drawn the No. 3 seed and will host the New Hampshire Wildcats (14-7) in the first round of NCAA Championship play on Nov. 11 in College Park. Also making the trip will be No. 6 Princeton (13-3) and No. 7 Penn State (17-5), who will battle it out in the first round at the Terps' Artificial Turf Facility. The first round winners square off in round two at Maryland on Nov. 12.
"I'm pleased with our selection and how the championship committee handled the seeding. It must have been a great challenge," said Maryland head coach Missy Meharg. "We're going to have a great regional, with high caliber teams like Princeton, Penn State and New Hampshire coming down here. We're looking forward to hosting all of them."
The Terrapins, fresh off their third consecutive ACC Championship victory, are making their 12th NCAA appearance and sixth in a row. The Terps are currently riding a four-game NCAA and eight-game postseason winning streak, dating back to 1999's ACC and national title runs. Maryland has never met New Hampshire in the history of the university's field hockey program. The Wildcats made their debut as No. 20 in the Nov. 7 STX/NFHCA Coaches Poll.
Game times for this weekend's first and second round games are still to be determined. Those times will be made official and released on Wednesday morning, Nov. 8.
