
Volleyball Signs Three Prepsters

COLLEGE PARK, Md.- The University of Maryland and head volleyball coach Janice Kruger announced today that Roxann Calderon, Jennifer Dewalt and Sarah Treadwell have all signed National Letters of Intent to play volleyball next season for the Terrapins.
"We are extremely excited about the three commitments we have gotten for the first-ever early signing period for women's volleyball," commented Kruger. "All three players are outstanding prospects who have the mental and physical potential to become outstanding collegiate players."
Calderon hails from San Antonio, Texas, one of two Texans that the Terps signed today. A four-year letterwinner at Oliver Wendell Holmes High School, Calderon was named first-team all-district her senior season. Calderon also earned all-tournament honors at the Tour of Texas and the Pearland Invitational, along with being selected as the Express News player of the week for Oct. 30, 2000. Calderon selected the Terps over TCU, Texas-Arlington, Texas-San Antonio and Tulane.
Dewalt heads to College Park from Bethlehem, Pa., where she played four seasons at Freedom High School. A first-team all-conference and all-district player in 1999, Dewalt also was selected second-team all-state. In her four years at Freedom, Dewalt helped guide her team to three conference championships and a 69-10 overall record. Dewalt chose Maryland over Pittsburgh, Temple, William & Mary, Colorado and Georgia Tech.
The third recruit the Terps inked, the second from Texas, Treadwell is from Pearland, Texas. An outstanding athlete who lettered four years in volleyball and three years in basketball at Pearland High School, Treadwell holds the school record for kills in a season and for a career. Treadwell was named the 1999 first-team all-district and the MVP of the district. Treadwell led the Houston area in kills her senior campaign with 513. Michigan, Houston, Georgetown, Texas-Arlington and Tulsa all recruited the Texas native.
