Women's Gymnastics Team Places Fourth At New Hampshire

DURHAM, N.H. - Junior Jill Fisher (Huntington, N.Y.) won the floor exercise with a 9.925 as the No. 13 Maryland women's gymnastics team fell to No. 18 New Hampshire, Bowling Green and George Washington with a team score of 191.925. UNH took first place at home with a score of 194.600, followed by GW with a 192.500 and Bowling Green claimed third with a 192.475. Tonight's loss is the first for the Terrapins since placing fourth against then-No. 5 Arizona State, Stanford and then-No. 19 Ohio State on Jan. 14.
George Washington's Devin McCalla placed first in the all-around with a score of 39.225. McCalla also placed second on beam with a 9.875 and second on floor with a 9.850. On vault, McCalla tied with Bowling Green's Amber Curry and Maryland's Fisher for third with a 9.725.
UNH had a strong evening with Cara Lepper earning first on the uneven bars and on beam with scores of 9.950 and 9.850, respectively. Suzanne Poretz finished third in the all-around with a 39.025 and tied with Maryland sophomore Gillian Cote (Fredericksburg, Va.) and Bowling Green's Marny Oestrong for second on bars with a 9.800. New Hampshire also took third place on floor with both Rose Kosowaki and Bethany Wagner earning scores of 9.825. Oestrong was Bowling Green's top performer of the evening, earning second place in the all around with a 39.050 and second on vault with a 9.775.
The Terrapins, now 7-6 overall and 4-1 in the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) will be in action once again on Wednesday, Feb. 16 when they take on Temple at McGonigle Hall in Philadelphia, Pa. That meet is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
