Cote Leads Maryland Gymnasts To Victory At George Washington

Sophomore Gillian Cote (Fredericksburg, Va.) continued to control the all-around as the No. 23 Maryland Terrapins defeated the George Washington Colonials 195.675-194.300. Coming off of a record-breaking win Friday night over Towson, North Carolina and North Carolina State at the Governor's Cup, Maryland finished the evening by earning the second-highest team score in school history.
Cote won the all-around with a 39.375, a personal season high as well as a team season high. Sophomore Laura Moon (Scottsdale, Ariz.) came in second with a 39.300, also a personal season high. Cote placed first and also set personal and team season highs on beam with a 9.925.
Junior Jill Fisher (Huntington, N.Y.) won the floor exercise with a 9.950, the second-highest floor score in school history. Fisher earned the highest floor exercise score, a perfect 10, on Friday night. Fisher also tied with Moon for third on beam with a 9.875.
GW came out on top in vault and uneven bars with Kacey Coyne placing first on vault with a 9.800 and Devin McCalla taking the bars with a 9.925. McCalla also placed second in floor with a 9.875.
Moon earned second place in vault with a 9.775, followed by senior co-captain Christine Holcombe McMurray, Pa.) with a 9.750. Placing for Maryland on bars were Cote coming in second with a 9.875 and Moon and sophomore Alyssa Mealey (Bensalem, Pa.) tying for third with scores of 9.825.
The Terps, now 8-3 overall and 4-0 in the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) will meet GW again on Saturday, Feb 7 as well as take on New Hampshire and Bowling Green at Whittemore Center / Lundholm Gymnasium in Durham, N.H. The meet will begin at 7 p.m. ET.
