
Florida State Beats Maryland Baseball Team 11-0

TALLAHASSEE, FLA. - Chris Smith went 2-for-4 with three RBI, leading Florida State (26-4, 5-2 ACC) to an 11-0 win over Maryland (6-16, 0-4 ACC) in baseball action at Dick Howser Stadium on Thursday. The game marked the first of a three-game series between the two schools.
Florida State got on the board in the bottom of the second inning when Brett Groves drilled a two-out, two-run triple to give the Seminoles a 2-0 lead. The lead grew to 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning when Blair McCaleb doubled home a run.
The floodgates burst open in the bottom of the seventh inning when the Seminoles erupted for six runs. Smith spearheaded the effort with a two-run double.
In the eighth inning, Florida State tacked on two more runs.
The game marked the first time this season the Terps have been shut out.
Maryland and Florida State resume their series Friday at 6 p.m.
TERP NOTES: Craig Munroe tied a career-high by hitting safely in his 11th straight game ... with two hits against the Seminoles, Munroe now has 13 multiple-hit games this season, including four straight against ACC teams ... Brian Patenaude tied his career high by hitting safely in his fifth straight game.
