AIKEN, S.C. - Maryland senior Gary Mankulish (Laurel, Md.) followed the best finish of his career with a second consecutive top 10 finish, posting a 74 in the final round of the Cleveland Golf Championships at the Palmetto Golf Club. Mankulish, 10th after his three-over par final round followed a pair of par 71s, finished one stroke ahead of senior teammate Keith Unikel (Potomac, Md.), who was 14th. Maryland finished in an 11th-place tie with host South Carolina-Aiken.
Unikel, who finished second at the Pepsi Intercollegiate at Bradford Creek, N.C., just three days earlier, shot 71 in four straight rounds before Tuesday's 74 at Palmetto. Unikel, meanwhile, fired a 70 in Tuesday's final round to climb within a stroke of Mankulish, after shooting 73 in each of the tournament's first two rounds.
Mankulish and Unikel paced a Maryland cast that included Corey Brigham (Rumson, N.J.) in 42nd place, Scott Ehrlich (Blue Bell, Pa.) in 70th and freshman John Moheyer (Lima, Ohio) in 74th place.
The Terps travel to Augusta, Ga., to compete in the Cleveland Golf Championships on April 1 and 2, held at the fabled Forest Hills Golf Club.
