The ACC Women's Golf Championship History
Maryland will participate in the 12th annual ACC women's golf championship tournament on April 14-16. The tournament has been held annually since 1992 and was also held in 1984, 1985 and 1986. Duke enters the 2000 tournament as the five-time defending champion, having won the championship each year since 1995. The Blue Devils have won seven of the previous 11 tournament championships while Wake Forest has won three championships. The Demon Deacons most recently won the team championship in 1995.
Terps Gain Highest Team Finish At JMU Invitational
Led by junior Sarah Bedford (Montgomery Village, Md.), who finished in a tie for seventh place, the Terps finished in fifth place at the James Madison University Lady Duke Invitational. It was the Terps' highest finish of the 2000 spring season and second-highest in school history. The highest finish in school history is fourth at the fall 1999 Great Smokies Invitational.
Bedford Enjoys Best Career Outing At JMU Invite
Junior Sarah Bedford finished in a career-best tie for seventh place with a career-low two-day score of 163 at the JMU Invitational. Crowther Maintains Consistency
Freshman Carter Crowther (Kilmarnock, Va.) continued her outstanding inaugural collegiate season with her best individual finish of the season as she placed tied for 17th-place at the JMU Invitational. She finished among Maryland's top three golfers in each of its four regular season tournaments this spring. Sophomore Brooke Bendler (Salisbury, Md.) earned the top finish of her collegiate career as she placed tied for 28th at the JMU Invitational. Bendler tied her season low with an 82 (+10) in the first round of the Lady Duke Invitational and has shot four rounds of 84 or better this spring. She has now placed in the top 50 in the individual rankings in two consecutive tournaments.
