Maryland Baseball Team Beats Towson 13-6

COLLEGE PARK, MD - Sophomore outfielder Matt Swope drilled a two-run home run and had four RBI, leading Maryland (18-26) to a 13-6 win over Towson (22-15) in baseball action today at Burdick Field. The win was the Terps' second straight and fifth in the past six games.

After Towson took a 4-1 lead heading into the top of the fourth inning, Swope ignited an eight-run outburst with a two-run double, cutting the gap to 4-3. The Terps sent 12 batters to the plate in the fourth inning, with the big blow provided by sophomore catcher Kevin McDonald, who smacked a three-run double.

Towson got a run back in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the margin to 9-5, but Swope's two-run home run to left field extended the lead to 11-5.

After Sean Williams homered for Towson in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Terps tacked on a pair of runs in the ninth inning to seal the win.

Freshman pitcher Jared Stuart (3-1) pitched a career-high 6.0 innings and got the win. Danny Chapman (3-4) took the loss. The Terps host Virginia this weekend in a three-game series, starting Friday at 7 p.m.
