COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Add another national honor to Maryland field hockey's list of accolades. The reigning NCAA champion Terp squad was tabbed the No. 1 team in the nation in the fall preview issue of Sports Illustrated For Women, on newsstands now.
You can check out the complete list of SIW's "Top Teams" by clicking here.
In addition, SI For Women cited Maryland senior tri-captain Carla Tagliente (Cortland, N.Y.) as 2000's preseason player of the year. The magazine said of the three-time All-American, "During the off-season, Maryland's Carla Tagliente accumulated a wealth of
experience as a starter for the national team. This fall she'll put that
experience to good use as the dominant player for the dominant team in the
country."
In other poll news, Hockeypoint! released new poll earlier this week, and the Terps remain on top. The first official NFHCA poll will be released on Sept. 12.
Maryland travels to face the University of Delaware in the first away match of the season on Friday, Sept. 8. Click here for this week's notes and preview. Game time is 8 p.m.
