Terrapins Finish Sixth At Tillinghast

SCARSDALE, N.Y. - Junior John Moheyer (Lima, Ohio) remained the University of Maryland's most consistent golfer on Tuesday, shooting a one-over par 71 to finish in a third-place tie and lead the Terrapins to a sixth-place team finish at the Tillinghast Intercollegiate at Quaker Ridge Golf Club.
Moheyer, a junior from Lima, Ohio, has been the Terps' most consistent player through four fall tournaments, and shot 70 and 71 in two rounds at The Tillinghast. Two weeks ago at the Temple Intercollegiate, Moheyer paced the Terps with a pair of par rounds and was the only Maryland player to shoot par in the final round.
After blustery conditions and a darkness-shortened first round of 18 holes on Monday, Moheyer and senior teammate Corey Brigham (Rumson, N.J.) had Maryland positioned in a third-place tie with Penn State and Northwestern. Both of those teams, however, distanced themselves from the Terrapins in the final round.
Moheyer (70-71-142) finished third alongside Tom Johnson of Northwestern, just three strokes behind co-champions Geoff Lound and James Lepp of Illinois. Illinois finished as the team champion, followed by Minnesota, Texas-Arlington, and Penn State and Northwestern in a tie for fourth.
Brigham (71-78-149), who shot one-over par 71 in the opening round, slipped to seven-over 78 on Tuesday, falling to a 21st-place tie. Other Maryland golfers included Pete Toole (Lancaster, Pa.) at 78-72-150, sophomore Tim Kane (Simsbury, Conn.) at 78-77-155 and freshman Bobby MacWhinnie (Pittsburgh, Pa.) at 81-76-157.
Maryland concludes its fall golf schedule next Monday and Tuesday.
