TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- The Cinderella run for the Maryland volleyball team came to an end vs. North Carolina in the semifinals of the ACC Volleyball Championship Saturday afternoon at Florida State. After upsetting No. 3 Georgia Tech in five games last night, the Terps ran out of gas in losing to the No. 2 seed North Carolina, 3-0 (30-26, 30-25, 35-33). With the loss, the Terps finish the season at 12-14.
Junior outside hitter Carey Brennan (Smithsburg, Md.) finished an excellent ACC Volleyball Championship with a match-high 19 kills to go along with 10 digs for the Terps. In two matches at the ACC Championship, Brennan racked up a team-best 47 kills.
Two other Terps finished in double-figures in kills as senior middle hitter Willette Dority (Congers, N.Y.) finished a brilliant senior season with 15 kills while hitting .400 for the match. Sophomore outside hitter Maria DiLivio (Hamilton, Ontario) also had a strong match, finishing with 17 kills and 14 digs.
The trip to the championship semifinals for the Terps was their best performance at the ACC Championship since 1997 when the team advanced to the finals.
