TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- Junior outside hitter Carey Brennan was named to the 2001 ACC All-Tournament team for her efforts at the 2001 ACC Volleyball Championship. Brennan led the Terps to an upset victory over No. 3 Georgia Tech in the quarterfinals before the Terps lost to the No. 2 seed and eventual ACC Champion North Carolina in the semifinals.
Brennan is just the eighth Terp all-time to be named to the ACC All-Tournament team. The last Maryland player to receive the honor was Elizabeth Efron in 1997.
A second-team All-ACC selection, Brennan tied a career-high with 28 kills in the five-game come-from-behind victory over Georgia Tech. The Terps dropped the first two games of the match before winning in five as Brennan also led the team with 19 digs.
In the North Carolina match, Brennan had her team-best 16th double-double of the year with 19 kills and 10 digs in the three-game loss to the Tar Heels.
Brennan is one of 15 players that return for the Terps next season. The Terrapins only lose two seniors in middle hitter Willette Dority (Congers, N.Y.) and defensive specialist Shannon Toback (Ellicott City, Md.).
