Gymnastics Falls to George Washington

WASHINGTON - Junior Gillian Cote (Fredericksburg, Va.) won the vault with a season-high 9.825 as the University of Maryland women's gymnastics team fell to the George Washington Colonials 191.700-194.750. Tonight's meet increases the Colonials lead in the all-time series between the schools 30-25.
The Terps did well on vault with junior Kit Johnson (Virginia Beach, Va.) placing third with a 9.750 and Catherine Gardner (Chelmsford, Mass.) tying for fourth with George Washington's Kacey Coyne with a 9.700.
On bars, junior Lisa Mealey (Bensalem, Pa.) swung to a second-place finish with a 9.825. Cote's season-high 9.875 on beam tied for second place with the Colonials' Devin McCalla. Also on beam, freshman Sarah Hoenig (Seaford, N.Y.) tied with George Washington's Darden Wilee for fourth place with a 9.825. Also representing for the freshmen Terps was Katherine Schroeder (Carrollton, Texas) who placed third with a 38.475 in her second outing as an all-around competitor.
Senior co-captain Jill Fisher (Huntington, N.Y.) warmed up with the team last night, but was unable to compete due to injuries.
The Terrapins (3-7) will come home to College Park for three of the final four meets of the regular season. The homestand begins on March 3 against the Penn State Lady Lions at 7 p.m. at Ritchie Colisuem.
