Women's Tennis Nets First ACC Win

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The women's tennis team (6-11, 1-6 ACC) captured its first ACC victory Saturday when it downed NC State at the Cole Field House Tennis Courts in College Park. The Terps earned two doubles win for the team point and garnered three singles wins in the close 4-3 victory. This is the first ACC win for the Terps this spring and the Wolfpack falls to 1-5 in conference play.
Earning doubles wins for Maryland, senior Catherine Valantin (Metz, France) and junior Pamela Floro (Manilla, Philippines) teamed up at the No. 2 doubles and freshmen Olivia Dubovikov (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Chloe Chavardes (St. Nombreteche, France) at No. 3. Valantin and Floro defeated Myrna Bawono and Katrina Gildemeister 8-0. Dubovikov and Chavardes downed Kristin Lam and Jennifer Jassawalla to clinch the doubles team point for the Terps.
In singles play, sophomore Delila Causevic (Silver Spring, Md.) defeated Lam in two sets, 6-0, 6-3. Causevic improves to 4-3 in the ACC at No. 1 and 10-7 overall. Dubovikov, who has been battling injuries through several matches, came in strong today with a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 2 over Gildemeister. Capturing the last Maryland win, and her first ACC victory, Floro won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 over NC State's Kristen Nicholls.
The Terps are back in action on Sunday, April 15, in their last regular season match. They will face Wake Forest who is currently 12-7 and have lost only one ACC match this season to No. 2 Duke. The Demon Deacons squared off against Virginia today before heading to Maryland. Matches will begin at noon at the Cole Field House Tennis Courts.
