
Fisher And Cote Named All-Americans

ATHENS, Ga. - Senior co-captain Jill Fisher (Huntington, N.Y.) earned first-team All-American for the floor exercise and junior co-captain Gillian Cote (Fredericksburg, Va.) earned second-team All-American for the all-around at the NCAA 2001 National Women's Gymnastics Championships on Thursday. They are the first Maryland gymnasts to be recognized as NCAA All-Americans in school history.
National competition started with two sessions on Thursday, the first at 1 p.m. and the second at 7 p.m. Fisher competed in the first session and concluded the afternoon with a 38.650 in the all-around. A score of 9.9 on the floor exercise made Fisher qualify for All-American status. Cote earned a 39.050 in the all-around in making second-team All-American. In the final all-around standings, Cote finished in 8th place for session two, just behind former teammate Laura Moon who finished 7th with a 39.100.
Fisher will compete in the individual floor exercise competition on Saturday, April 21 at 7 p.m. to finish the season for Maryland.
