No. 2 Duke Downs the Terps 7-0 in Durham, N.C

Durham, N.C. - The women's tennis team (5-9, 0-4 ACC) fell 7-0 to No. 2 Duke in Durham, N.C. on Saturday. Two Terps fought through two difficult three-set matches but the nationally ranked Blue Devils proved to be too much. Senior Catherine Valantin (Metz, France) lost her first match of the season when she fell to No. 19 freshman Amanda Johnson at the No. 3 singles. Johnson defeated Valantin in three sets, 1-6, 6-2, 6-2. Freshman Chloe Chavardes (St. Nombreteche, France) also lost in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 1-0, to Hilary Adams in the No. 5 singles.
The Blue Devils dominated the dual sweeping all six singles and three doubles matches for the victory. They improve to 17-1 while Maryland continues to struggle in conference play. The Terps will meet another difficult opponent on Sunday when they face No. 14 North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C.
