COLLEGE PARK, Md.- Ryan Barthelemy went 3-for-6 with four RBIs as No. 16 Florida State downed Maryland, 13-1, in the series finale Sunday afternoon at Shipley Field. Barthelemy hit his third home run in two games for the ACC regular season champion Seminoles.
The Seminoles scored two runs in the second to grab a 2-0 lead. Karl Jernigan got things started with a RBI double and Bryan Zech delivered a sacrifice fly for the Seminoles' two runs in the frame.
In the third, FSU scored three more runs to build its lead to 5-0. The Seminoles had just two hits in the inning but Maryland starter Jared Stuart (Corning, N.Y.) walked three in the inning to lead to the three runs.
Maryland scored its only run of the game in the fourth on a towering home run by sophomore second baseman John McCurdy (Crofton, Md.). The long ball was McCurdy's fifth on the year and the only run allowed by FSU starter Robby Read. Read (7-4) fanned seven and allowed six hits to pick up his seventh win of the season.
The Seminoles scored eight more runs over the final five innings to close the scoring at 13-1. Three FSU players had three-hit games including Barthelemy, John-Ford Griffin and Mike Futrell.
The loss sends the Terps to 15-34 overall and 4-19 in the conference. FSU improves to 38-14 and 18-3 in the ACC.
The Terrapins are back in action Wednesday night at home against George Washington. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
