COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- - University of Maryland senior wide receiver Guilian Gary has been released from Kernan Hospital in Baltimore, has returned to College Park and has been cleared to begin rehabilitation with the Terrapin medical staff.
Gary, the Terps' leading receiver in 1999 and 2000, suffered a cervical spine injury in yesterday evening's practice on the football practice fields and was airlifted to R. Adams Crowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. While there, he was evaluated and all tests (x-rays, CAT scan and MRI) turned out negative regarding the possibility of a spinal injury. The official diagnosis is that Gary suffered a neck sprain.
"Guilian will follow up with (head team physician) Dr. (Leigh Ann) Curl later this week and, after some rest, will begin rehabilitation," said Sandy Worth, head athletics trainer. "He still has some soreness in his neck and limited motion. Until that subsides, he will not be permitted to resume his participation in practice."
