Postcards From Cali - Day 3

Greetings once again from Northern California, where the Terps opened the 2001 season with a big win over the Cal-Berkeley Bears.

The field hockey squad began the day with some jogging and stretching, and headed over to Stanford after a big breakfast and strategy session. That session took on a possible new tradition as Lucy Morris and Kerry Hearsey sang a song about the 2001 Terps.

The game was a success and the Terrapins hung around to watch Delaware get the best of Pacific, 3-0. The Terps discussed X's and O's and watched some video before a team dinner, and then bedded down early in preparation for the game vs. Pacific on Sunday.

    Here are tonight's postcards.

Senior Megan Kelly (Gaithersburg, Md.): Hey everyone! Just writing to say "hi" to everyone and to tell you all that I've been having tons of fun here in Cali. Let me tell you, I'm totally moving here after I graduate (but only after I travel around Europe and then live in NYC for a year). Anyway, we had a pretty good season opener today, I mean, 8-0 is pretty impressive. We actually just got back from dinner and of course I had to get pie and ice cream afterwards so someone is going to have to roll me out the door tomorrow morning before the game vs. Pacific. But I have to go now... so anyway here's the time for me to say I miss you all and I love you guys! Peace out!

Redshirt freshman Beth Hafer: Hey everyone! Wow, what can I say, so far this trip has been a lot of fun. Since this is my first time on the West Coast I'm amazed at how beautiful the weather is out here. We had a good game today against Cal-Berkeley and thanks to Lucy and Kerry's original song we were pumped up and ready to go. After the game we went out to dinner as a team and then some of us went for ice cream. Tomorrow we play Pacific so I gotta go catch some sleep. See ya all soon!!!! Miss you all.

Redshirt freshman Sara Silvetti: Hi family and friends and Terp fans! California is so much fun and we are enjoying every moment. Today was our first game of the series. We won, 8-0! It was my first college match so of course I was a little nervous. But all went well and we played very well for our first game of an amazing season. Only two more games and then we will be back at UM for our first days of school, we all can definitely wait! See you all soon, ciao!

Senior "Arnie" Caro Walter (Heidelberg, Germany): Hi to everyone on the East Coast and even further east in Germany... love and miss you very much (hello, how about a little phone call -- I mean, u guys can call my sister's in law cell phone -- so get going Christian...)

Today and the last days were just amazing and I will move out here too -- so forget my plans that I had so far.

Now, concerning boyfriends, our parents won't have to worry -- we will all have some at the end of the first home weekend. We wear the best uniforms we've ever had -- nice and tight - and let me just say one thing: no one will ever grab my shirt again, because it is just impossible. So it is not the best idea that we eat and eat and eat again all day...

Steve and Frattoman want me to talk about the vans -- ok, so the red van really rocks....that's about it -- sorry I have to go to bed -- I was already too late last night and I doubt the coaches would like that two nights in a row -- good night and see u back in C.P. city... Love, Arnie
