SUNNYVALE, Calif. - The Maryland field hockey team put in another full day on Sunday, rising early to prepare for their second game of the season. Focusing on specific goals discussed in the pregame strategy session paid off for the Terps, who put in a solid performance against the Pacific Tigers for an 8-0 win, their second in two days.

Following the match the Terps watched Stanford and Delaware square off as part of preparation for upcoming matches against both teams. After chowing down at the field the team went back to the hotel to clean up for dinner and say "goodbye" to former Terps Carla Tagliente and Kate Kauffman, who returned to San Diego for U.S. National Team training after spending a few nights with the team.

The Maryland players got to see another former Terp on Sunday. Sue Woods (Class of 1988) and her husband, Stanford assistant Patrick Burroughs, invited the team over to their house to spend time with the family. The Terps entertained Woods' young sons Jeffery and James while Maryland assistant coach Andrew Griffiths fired up the bar-be-cue.

Following the meal a series of ping pong "grudge matches" ensued, highlighted by junior Kateri Simon and her media relations assistant's whipping of Woods and assistant coach Steve Simpson, leaving coach Simpson wondering whether 21-15 is considered a whipping.

One more note about Maryland alumni - 1992 grad Nicole Metz and her family, members of the infamous field hockey e-mail list, have been staying in the Terps' hotel and supporting the team in the matches played in her new home state.

Eight o'clock practice is going to come early tomorrow morning, so here are this evening's postcards. Some of the Terps liked writing so much they came back for more.

Freshman Kerry Hearsey (Leicester, England): Hey everyone, well firstly I hope everyone is well. Here I am sitting at Fratto's computer typing this email trying to think exactly where to begin. As you can guess being in California is very, very different to England - I have to deal with the heat and sun for a start!! As for today... once everyone had dealt with their sunburn from yesterday we prepared ourselves for the day ahead. It began badly when our warm up music came on - "ABBA's Greatest Hits!!!" As you can imagine the girls weren't very impressed at warming up to the likes of "Dancing Queen" and "Waterloo". Music behind us we went about our jobs very impressively winning 8-0. It's been pretty difficult to adjust to the American way of things, but slowly but surely I'm getting there. So just to finish with... I miss you all and hope to see you all again very soon. Dina Rizzo Part II (Walpole, Mass.): Hey friends, family and fans!! Today was another great day. We won, and accomplished our goals... yipeeeee. Then we were invited to Sue Woods' house, she played at Maryland years ago... she rocks... We ate our faces off -- some good home cooking. I kicked Andrew's butt in ping pong. I am the winner!! Well I am getting kicked off now, it's bedtime, we have to get up so early. 6:00 ugh. Oh yeah ... "hi" to Keli, Leah, Courtney, Linds and Rob. Miss ya. Megan Kelly Part II (Gaithersburg, Md.): Hey guys! I'm back again. Just wanted to write again because I left out a few things before... Keli, Linds, Leah, Cort, and whoever else is at my house right now, I miss you and can't wait to be back in CP. Christian, Ich Liebe Dich!!! Mom, Dad, and sisters, I'll call you at some point on this trip. Miss you all!!! Later!

Senior Angie Klingerman (Bloomsburg, Pa.): Hi everyone!! We are having an amazing time in California. Couldn't ask for a better way to start off a great season. Today, we went 2-0 with a big win over Pacific and then went to a fun bar-be-que at Sue Woods' house, a former Maryland Terrapin. Just when I think that I couldn't possibly eat anything else, I keep finding a way. I love this team and we have more and more fun every day. Tam, Dad, Elena and anyone else reading this, I miss you, but we'll be back in College Park soon enough to bring the fun back home. We have an incredibly early practice tomorrow morning, but we head to San Francisco for the day, so it should be a fun tourist-y day. The video camera is getting some great team bonding moments to look back and laugh on. The trip is flying by, but it's been a great one to remember.
