COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Field hockey senior forward Dina Rizzo (Walpole, Mass.) shares ACC Field Hockey Player of the Week honors after keying Maryland's balanced scoring attack in a pair of games last weekend. Rizzo's three goals and six total points helped the Terps (5-1) to two victories and their fifth Terrapin Invitational title in the tournament's five-year history.
The ACC Player of the Week honor is a career-first for Rizzo, who shares the accolade with North Carolina's Kelsey Keeran (2 goals, 1 assist last weekend).
Rizzo netted a pair of goals, including the game-winner, against the Northwestern Wildcats in Maryland's 4-0 victory that opened the Terp Invite. The two-time Mid-Atlantic All-Region selection also found the back of the cage in the Terps' title-clinching 5-0 win over Kent State.
The senior's two-goal effort against the Wildcats was a season-high. Rizzo has scored in all but one of the Terps' games to date, and now paces the Maryland squad with six goals and 12 points. The Terp offense has outscored opponents 29-2 in its first six games and features 12 players with at least one point.
Rizzo and Maryland hit the road this week for a pair of games at UMass's campus. The Terps meet the 2000 Atlantic 10 champion Minutewomen in Amherst on Saturday, Sept. 15 at 1 p.m. before facing the Louisville Cardinals on Sunday at 1 p.m.
