In the first edition of "Inside the Circle," Kateri Simon breaks down the season so far, including how the team is rebounding from its first setback.
"Inside the Circle" with Kateri Simon and Autumn Welsh -- that's pretty catchy. I could get used to that. Over the season I am going to do my best each week to let you all in on the juicy secrets and untold gossip of our team without getting "accidentally" whacked with a stick at practice. Just kidding. I'll stick to the facts from my inside perspective on the exciting, dynamic, creative, fun, athletic, and determined field hockey team.
I'm writing this week's entry, but you'll also hear about hockey from Autumn half the time, and if we're feeling kind of crazy, maybe once in a while we'll both have something to say.
So much has happened with this exciting team since the first day of training on August 9th, but due to the limited space I am going to start you all of with what is presently going down.
Right now it's all about being together. We win together. We lose together. Unfortunately, my fellow Terps and I have just had the experience of losing together on Saturday to ODU after a frustrating, soaking wet, semi-chaotic game on that dreaded field in Norfolk. But is it really so unfortunate?
Maybe it was more unfortunate that we began the season with three fun and exciting but less challenging matches out west, which didn't force us to play with every bit of potential our truly talented team has. And now we should be fortunate for this early loss to have recognized what we need to do to play to our true and outstanding potential.
No doubt that the general feeling after the loss began as frustrated and disappointed, but as in all negative situations, the positives will outweigh those pesky negatives. We can go so far from here!
This weekend is the Maryland Invitational in College Park. We'll train smart and hard this week and work on the things we learned today. I know for sure, after today's events, that this team is going to be strong and capable of going only up. We took away so much good from a situation that many others could have considered devastating.
