COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Two Maryland football players who played key roles in the Terps' season-opening 23-7 victory over North Carolina last Saturday have been honored as Atlantic Coast Conference Players of the Week.
Punter Brooks Barnard, whose booming punts kept the Tar Heels trapped deep in their own territory, was named the Special Teams Player of the Week. He averaged 50.4 yards on eight punts. Six of his punts were downed inside the 20-yard line. Seven of his eight punts were at least 50 yards in length.
Linebacker E.J. Henderson was named Defensive Lineman of the Week after registering a team-high 12 total tackles - his fifth consecutive effort in double figures, dating to last season - and three tackles for losses. The Tar Heels were limited to just seven points (coming on their first play from scrimmage) and four rushing first downs.
Maryland, off to a 1-0 start under first-year head coach Ralph Friedgen, will host Eastern Michigan this Saturday at 6 p.m.
