Women's Golf Improves Four Places After Second Round Of Unlimited Potential/Bay Tree Invitational

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Led by sophomore Kara Gropler's (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) nine-stroke improvement, the Maryland Terrapins women's golf team climbed four spots to tie for sixth place at the Unlimited Potential/Bay Tree Invitational. As a team, the Terps' second-round 311 bested their first-day 322 by 11 strokes, moving Maryland into striking distance of a top 5 finish.
Thirty-one teams are in action at the Par 72, 5,884-yard Bay Tree Golf Plantation.
Top Terp Marie Harper (West Point, Va.) carded a 78 to tie for 11th place with a two-day total of 154. Following closely is classmate Katie Redeker (Pepper Pike, Ohio), whose second day 79 ties her for the 19th position at 156 after two days.
Freshman Kristen Shew (Hockessin, Del.) also keyed the Terps' improvement, shaving six strokes off her opening round to total 162 after two days (84-78-162). Sophomore Erin Clasper (Potomac, Md.) climbed from 102nd place to a tie for 88th by knocking four strokes off her first round count (85-81--166).
The Terrapins, who finished among the top 10 in four of five golf events last spring, look to make it 5-for-6 as they third and final round of the Bay Tree Invitational on Sunday.
