Volleyball Terps Fall To No. 11 North Carolina

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Laura Greene had 20 kills on Friday night to lead No. 11 North Carolina to a four-game volleyball win at Maryland. The Tar Heels used 10 blocks and outhit the Terps with a .253 hitting percentage to remain in first place in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

North Carolina (19-1, 6-0 ACC) raced to opening wins in the first and second games of the match, before surrendering a lone loss to Maryland in game three. The Tar Heels won the match by scores of 30-24, 30-26, 25-30, 30-19. It was UNC's 11th consecutive win.

After Maryland (13-9, 2-5 ACC) extended the match to the fourth game, UNC never trailed during the final game. After breaking open a 3-2 score, the Heels raced to a 14-9 advantage. UNC led 24-18 before winning six of the final seven points in the match.

The Terrapins dominated the third game of the match while bidding for the upset. Jennifer Dewalt scored seven of her team-high 16 kills during game three, while Lynnsy Jones added five. Jones ended the match with 16 kills, also. Senior outside hitter Carey Brennan contributed 15 kills for Maryland for the match.

Maryland hosts NC State at Ritchie Coliseum at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19.
