Maryland Falls To 24th Ranked Georgia Tech

Oct. 26, 2002

ATLANTA, Ga. - Carey Brennan led Maryland against the 24th-ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Saturday night with 23 kills and 10 digs, but it wasn't enough as the Terps fell in four games to their ACC rival. Fellow Terp Stephanie Smith, who played well yesterday against Clemson, continued her solid play, accumulating 10 kills with a match-high .600 hitting percentage.

The Terps took game one 30-27, but then Tech rattled off 30-14, 30-28 and 30-27 victories.

Lindsey Davey continued to be an assist machine, totaling 120 for the two-game weekend road trip. Her 50 against Georgia Tech was bested only by Georgia Tech setter Kele Eveland who had 52.

Lynnsy Jones joined Brennan and Smith in the double-digit kill column with 15. She also added two service aces, nine digs, and two block assists. Rachel Wagener led the Terps in blocking with four assisted blocks.

Game three was tied 11 times, and neither team was able to extend their lead to greater than one in the last 23 points of the game until Lynette Moster tallied her 11th kill of the match, pushing the Yellow Jackets to the 30-28 victory.

Game four was also played tight, but the Terps just could not break through. Moster led the Yellow Jackets with nine kills in the game. Five different Terps posted kills in game four, but it was too little, too late.

Maryland will be in action again Tuesday against Wake Forest in College Park.
