Box Score
DURHAM, N.C. -
Lynnsy Jones posted 22 kills and Carey Brennan added 13 on Friday night, but they were not enough to stop Duke from beating Maryland in an Atlantic Coast Conference volleyball classic, 3-2, at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Maryland (11-7, 0-3 ACC) fell for the seventh straight match, though not without a fight in a tense match between two of the ACC's top four clubs. Maryland rallied from a 29-25 deficit to win an opening game 34-32, and after falling behind 2-1 in the match, beat the Devils 30-25 in game four.
Duke (14-5, 2-2 ACC) outlasted the Terrapins by final game scores of 32-34, 30-27, 30-22, 25-30, 15-13.
Jones' efforts were surpassed by Duke junior Katie Gilman who set a career-high with 27 kills on the night, also tallying nine digs and a pair of block assists. Jones led the Terps with a .263 hitting percentage on a night when Brennan continued to be hobbled by a strained left foot. Brennan led the Terrapins with 22 digs in the back row on Friday night, but contributed 10 attack errors while hitting an uncharacteristically low .059.
Maryland outblocked the Blue Devils at the net, 14-11, with seniors Amanda Ayres and Lindsay Davey recording eight and six assists, respectively.
The Terrapins, who began the season with 11 consecutive wins before its current slide, will hope to return to the win column on Saturday while traveling to Wake Forest.
