WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -
Senior outside hitter Carey Brennan blasted 25 kills and added 15 digs on Saturday night to lead Maryland past Wake Forest in a four-game volleyball victory in Winston-Salem. For the Terrapins (12-7, 1-3 ACC), the win snapped a seven-match losing skid which had followed an 11-match win streak to begin the season.
Brennan, hobbled periodically through the season with an aggravated left foot injury, joined Lynnsy Jones and Jennifer Dewalt with double-figure kills. Jones, who hit .452 during the match with just four errors, posted 18 kills while Dewalt added 11 to the cause.
In what was the Terrapins' first ACC victory of the season, Maryland got past a 30-25 loss in game one of the match to win three successive games and claim the win. Maryland won the match by game scores of 25-30, 30-24, 30-22, 31-29.
Redshirt freshman Stephanie Smith led the Terrapins' block with five block assists, helping the Terps to a 10-8 advantage at the net. Senior setter Lindsay Davey set up 61 of Maryland's 69 kills to spark the Maryland offense.
Wake Forest (7-9, 2-2 ACC) was led by Valerie Rydberg who contributed 17 kills.
Maryland continues its ACC schedule next Tuesday at Virginia, and next Saturday at Florida State.
