COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Welcome to "Inside the Circle," a weekly inside look at Maryland field hockey. Each Tuesday throughout the 2002 season, senior Kateri Simon (Fallston, Md.) and sophomore Kristin Harris (Lititz, Pa.) will combine to bring you the latest Terp happenings from the student-athlete's point-of-view.
Use Kateri and Kristin's journal to follow the Terps' 2002 campaign all season long. If you would like to submit question to our authors about field hockey, the Terps or anything (within reason!), send us an e-mail.
This week (after a gratuitous welcome to her family in the greater Lititz, Pa., region), Kristin discusses the Terps' recent game at Virginia and how fast the season seems to be going. The Terrapins are clicking as a team, and hope that their positive energy continues to produce success on the field as Maryland hits an important stretch of its regular season.
Hi there Terp fans! I just wanted to send a quick shoutout to Jamie and to all of my "families" back home. Sorry, I just felt like I had to take advantage of this broadcasting opportunity (ha ha!).
Anyway, wow, where has the season gone? We are winding down to the end of the regular season already, and, as the weather indicates, it still feels like summer. It is truly amazing how fast each game comes and goes and remains just a memory, and with Maryland field hockey we strive to create memories that are only the "best of the best". As I look back on this season so far, I am so thankful for each and every teammate, as each contributes so much to my life in various ways. I can only hope that we can continue to grow as friends and teammates as the season stretches on. Awwwwwwww, I love you guys!!!
Okay, now back to business. On Sunday afternoon in sunny Charlottesville, Virginia we defeated a fellow ACC team 3-2 in overtime. UVA provided another great opportunity for us to improve as a team as they responded to each of our successfull attacks by finding the back of our goal. We all agreed that we would certainly love to capitalize on our goal scoring opportunities more often but that we would settle for this win against a determined Virgina team. So, after a beautifully executed corner in overtime and a higly acclaimed stop at Boston Market following the game, we returned home victorious.
For now, we will remain focused on the improvements we need to make as we head into this weekend facing Duke and Davidson. Stay tuned for next week's update with my fellow midfielder Kateri "the inspiration" Simon. Have a great week!
