No. 11-ranked North Carolina won for the 15th time in 16 Atlantic Coast Conference volleyball matches this season, beating Maryland 30-24, 30-24, 30-19 as both teams ended the regular season on Sunday afternoon. Maryland, despite 14 kills from junior outside hitter Lynnsy Jones, was unable to keep pace with the ACC champion Tar Heels.
UNC outhit the Terrapins with a .321 hitting percentage, compared to a .102 mark by the visiting Terps. North Carolina also managed 15 blocks in the three-game match.
Jones hit .294 for the match while adding a pair of serving aces as Maryland ended the regular season at 18-13 overall, 7-9 in the ACC. Lindsay Davey also had a pair of aces for Maryland, and paced the Terps offense with 31 assists out of 37 kills for the afternoon. Carey Brennan added eight kills. She and Amanda Ayres paced Maryland with seven digs in the effort.
North Carolina was led by Malaika Underwood and Laura Greene, both totaling 13 kills apiece. Holly Strauss added seven kills and five blocks.
