COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland volleyball coach Janice Kruger has announced the signing of two high school players to National Letters of Intent. Tina Aramburu of Stafford, Va., and Teryn Papp of Bloomington, Ind., have committed to attend the University of Maryland and play for the Terrapins beginning in fall of 2003.
Aramburu is a 6-2 outside hitter from Brooke Point High School in Virginia. Papp is a 5-9 setter from Bloomington South High School in Indiana. Both have previously participated at Maryland volleyball camps.
"Tina is a great physical player," said Kruger."She has a great attitude about practice, and a great work ethic that will serve her well in terms of her development. I have high hopes for Tina."
Aramburu was a two-year team captain at Brooke Point and was recently named the 2002 district player of the year. She has played with the Fredericksburg Juniors Volleyball Club and was voted the MVP of summer camps in 2002 conducted by the University of Maryland and the University of Connecticut.
On Papp, Kruger added, "Teryn has excellent hands and a good court presence. She is a very stable and determined player who has been setting and hitting for a long time. She has some very good club and high school experience."
Papp has been a four-year starter at Bloomington South, and has played the past two years with Circle City Volleyball Club in Indianapolis. A participant at U.S. Junior National Team tryouts last March, she has been a team captain the past two seasons, as well as her team's MVP in 2001.
