
Brennan And Wagener Garner All-ACC Volleyball Honors For Terps

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - A second team selection as a junior in 2001, Maryland senior Carey Brennan was named today as a first team pick on the 2002 all-league volleyball team in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Freshman teammate Rachel Wagener was named to the league's All-Freshman Team.
Brennan, the school's all-time leader in kills, received All-ACC honors for the second straight season as Maryland heads into this week's ACC Tournament matchup with Duke. Brennan is one of the most well-rounded players in Terrapin history, owning the career record with 1,573 kills and boasting more than 1,300 digs. During her senior campaign, she leads the Terps with a .276 hitting percentage, and is among league leaders with 4.06 kills per game.
Wagener, a true freshman, is second on the team with 78 total blocks, including 14 solo. She averages 0.87 blocks and 1.30 kills per game during her first college season.
Duke and Georgia Tech head the All-ACC teams with four highlighted athletes each, followed by Clemson and North Carolina with three apiece, and Maryland and Virginia each having two athletes named to the teams, as selected by the league's nine head coaches. Florida State and Wake Forest rounded out the teams with one selection apiece.
North Carolina's Laura Greene was named the 2002 ACC Player of the Year, while Wake Forest's Christy Williams was tabbed ACC Rookie of the Year. Tar Heel head coach Joe Sagula garnered ACC Coach of the Year honors.
