COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Senior linebacker E.J. Henderson has been voted the Atlantic Coast Conference's Defensive Player of the Year for a second consecutive season, the league office announced.
The award was voted on by members of the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association.
Henderson, a finalist for a number of national defensive awards - including the Butkus, Lombardi, Bednarik and Nagurski - leads the Terps with 144 total tackles and 13.5 tackles for loss. Of his 144 tackles, 107 have been solo stops. He ranks third on Maryland's all-time tackle chart with 442 career tackles.
This season, Henderson has led the Terps in tackles in nine of 12 games. He posted a season high 19 stops in last week's game at Virginia. Earlier this season, he broke Aaron Thompson's career record for tackles for loss; he now has 56.5 stops behind the line of scrimmage.
Henderson, a 6-2, 250-pounder who earned a degree in criminology last spring, is bidding to become the first two-time consensus All-American in Terrapin history.
