The Terps were looking for the upset at home against the ACC's third place team, the Blue Devils. The Terps took game one with relative ease. Leading 29-20, the Terps gave up four straight late points before a Duke service error gave them the game one victory.
In game two, Maryland played close, and almost was able to pull out the win, but Duke's Katie Gilman scored three kills in the game's last five points to secure the win for Duke. Gilman led the Blue Devils with 17 kills, and five block assists.
Lynnsy Jones was the star for the Terps as she posted a team-high 21 kills and just four errors. She also led the team with 20 defensive digs, and added a service ace and four blocks, including one solo.
Game three was rough for the Terps, and after a slow start, they were never able to fully recover. But making up for the poor third game, Maryland came storming out of the gates in game four. Winning the first four points, and nine of the first 11, the Terps were able to easily dispose of the Blue Devils 30-19. Game five started poorly and ended poorly as the Terps never really had an opportunity to take control of the deciding game. Duke finished it off by winning game five, 15-8.
Another bright spot for the Terps has been the continued improvement in the blocking games of Rachel Wagener and Stephanie Smith. Both freshman had stellar games in the block categy. Between the two of them, they 16 blocks including three solos. Wagener contributed with one solo block and six assisted blocks while Smith threw in two solo blocks and seven assisted blocks. Wagener also had six kills.
