KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - After 27 holes at the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate in Kiawah Island, S.C., the Maryland women's golf team is in fifth place with a collective score of 454. Carding a 305 in the first round, the Terps are on pace for a seven stroke improvement with a 149 after nine holes in the second.

Senior Erin Clasper (North Potomac, Md.) is tied for ninth place with a 111, leading the Terps. If her position holds up, it would be the first time a Maryland golfer has finished in the top ten all season. Clasper is on pace for a par 72 in the second round after carding a three-over-par 75 in the first.

Senior Carter Crowther (Kilmarnock, Va.) and junior Marie Harper (West Point, Va.) are just one stroke behind Clasper, tied for 11th place with a 27-hole total of 112. Crowther carded a 74 in the first round, while Harper shot a 75.

Juniors Katie Redeker (Pepper Pike, Ohio) and Stacey Wolejko (Hatfield, Mass.) round up the Terps, tied for 44th place with a collective 120. Both are on pace to better their first-round scores after nine holes in the second. After carding an 81 in the first round, Redeker carries a 39 to the back nine, while Wolejko brings a 38 after a first-round 82.

The Terps trail fourth-place Coastal Carolina by just one stroke and have a five-stroke advantage over sixth-place Jacksonville State. Kansas State leads the 17-team field with a 27-hole total of 440.

Play concludes tomorrow with the final nine holes of the second round and the complete third round.
