Women's Golf Finishes Fourth In Final Fall Tournament

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - The Maryland women's golf team carded a 301 in the second round of the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate and a third-round 298 to finish in fourth place. The Terps improved one spot during the second day of their final fall tournament, earning their best finish of the season.
Senior Carter Crowther (Kilmarnock, Va.) fired the Terps' first par round of the season, carding a 72 over the final 18 holes to lead the Terps in 14th place. After shooting 74 and 76 in the first two rounds, Crowther finished with a collective six-over-par 222. Her rank was the highest a Terrapin has placed this fall, topping senior Erin Clasper's (North Potomac, Md.) 15th-place finish at the Lady Pirate Fall Intercollegiate three weeks ago.
Junior Marie Harper (West Point, Va.) also landed in the top 20, tying for 15th, just one stroke behind Crowther with a 223. Harper carded her three lowest rounds of the season with a first-round 75 and two rounds of 74.
In ninth place after 27 holes, Clasper finished the tournament tied for 23rd with a 228. After shooting a one-over-par 73 in the second round, she carded an 80 in the third to drop her behind her two teammates.
Juniors Katie Redeker (Pepper Pike, Ohio) and Stacey Wolejko (Hatfield, Mass.) both improved each round of the tournament. Redeker fired her lowest round of the season, a three-over-par 75 in the third, to finish tied for 44th place, after carding an 81 and 79 in the first two rounds. Wolejko tied for 48th place, two strokes behind Redeker, with a combined total of 237. Her third-round 77 was her low round of the season.
The Terps finished 18 strokes behind third-place Oklahoma and two strokes ahead of fifth-place Coastal Carolina and Missouri. Tulane won the tournament with a combined eight-over-par 872.
The Terps have the winter off before returning to the course Feb. 28-March 2 for the Edwin Watts/Carolinas Collegiate Classic in Pinehurst, N.C.
