PINEHURST, N.C. - Led by junior captain Erin Clasper (North Potomac, Md.) and freshman Kristen Shew (Hockessin, Del.) the Terps are tied for 15th place (with Appalachian State) in the Edwin Watts/Carolinas Classic after firing a combined 333 in the first round of play.
Clasper's first round 79 (41-38--79) left her tied for 29th place in the tournament. The team captain participated in two of the four fall tournaments last season.
Shew, the Terps' lone recruit, is holding her highest position (second) within the team in her college career with a first round 83 (39-44).
Fall season stand-outs junior Carter Crowther (Kilmarnock, Va.), sophomores Marie Harper (West Point, Va.) and Katie Redeker (Pepper Pike, Ohio) are also participating in this tournament.
The final day of the tournament gets underway with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday.
