COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Furman Bisher, a legend in American sportswriting, Tuesday was among more than 350 people on hand at the Inn and Conference Center to honor Ralph Friedgen as the 2001 Bobby Dodd National Coach of the Year. Friedgen, a graduate of the University of Maryland, was a unanimous selection for the award, named for the former Georgia Tech coaching great.
In a pre-banquet press conference attended by area media outlets, Friedgen told reporters the Dodd award -- one of 12 national coach of the year honors he won in 2001 -- was the most meaningful of all.
