Women's Golf Team in Sixth Place After First Round in Daytona Beach

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - After one round of play in the Hatter Spring Fling, the Terps are within one stroke of their first top five finish of the spring season and second of the year.
Led by junior Erin Clasper (North Potomac, Md.), the team has made their best showing in a first round since the fall 2000 season, with all players carding scores below 80 in the first round. Clasper is currently tied for third place with a 74 (+2).
Freshman Kristen Shew (Hockessin, Del.), sophomore Marie Harper (West Point, Va.) and junior Carter Crowther (Kilmarnock, Va.) are all six strokes over par (78) and tied for twenty-second place. Sophomore Katie Redeker (Pepper Pike, Ohio), is one stroke behind her teammates with a first-round 79.
The Terps are one stroke behind Wisconsin and East Tennessee and have an eight-stroke lead over the seventh place team, Austin Peay. Michigan and Florida Southern lead the field with a combined score of 298.
Play resumes Sunday at the Indigo Lakes Golf Club in Daytona Beach for the second and final round of the Hatter Spring Fling.
