WILMINGTON, N.C. - North Carolina State holds a three stroke lead over Florida State and Louisville while Michigan's Kim Benedict sits atop the individual leaderboard after the first day of UNC Wilmington's Lady Seahawk Invitational at River Landing Golf Club.
Maryland is in 14th place heading into Tuesday's action.
Under near-perfect conditions, the Wolfpack fashioned a 300-299=599 total over the 36 holes on the first day. FSU shot a 298-304=602 and Louisville carded a 299-303=602 for a second-place tie. Indiana and Michigan rounded out the top five on the Par 72, 5,957-yard layout along the Neuse River in Southeastern North Carolina.
The final 18 holes will be played Tuesday, with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
Benedict, a junior from Rochester Hills, Mich., fired an even-par 73-71=144 for a one-stroke lead over Maryland's Erin Clasper in the individual standings. Clasper turned in a 71-74=145 and Indiana's Tiffany Fisher is two shots back at 73-73=146.
