Kickoff Times Set For First 7 Terrapin Football Games

Kickoff times for the first seven games of the University of Maryland's 2002 football season have been set. For the remaining six games, kickoff times will be announced 12 days prior to game day as part of the agreement with the ACC's television partners.
The defending ACC champion Terps will launch a school-record 13-game regular season schedule Saturday, Aug. 31 when they take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the Kickoff Classic at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. The game, which will be televised nationally on ABC, will kick off at 8 p.m.
Following the game against Notre Dame, the Terps will return to College Park to open a four-game homestand. Maryland will host Akron (Sept. 7, 6 p.m.), ACC rival Florida State (Sept. 14, 7:45 p.m., ESPN), Eastern Michigan (Sept. 21, 6 p.m.) and Wofford (Sept. 28, 6 p.m.) at Byrd Stadium on successive Saturdays during the month of September.
The Terps will return to the road for an Oct. 5 matchup at border rival West Virginia in a game that kicks off at noon in Morgantown, W.V. After an idle week, Maryland will return to Byrd for a special Thursday night matchup on ESPN vs. ACC foe Georgia Tech (Oct. 17, 7:45 p.m.).
From mid-October on, as the conference race builds to a climax, the ACC's television partners move to a 12-day selection, meaning that each Monday by 4 p.m., ABC, ESPN and Jefferson-Pilot choose game selections (and announce kickoff times) for the Saturday of the following week.
