GREENSBORO, N.C. -
The Atlantic Coast Conference 50th Anniversary Volleyball Team was announced today by Commissioner John Swofford. The 53-member team was voted on by the nine league institutions as decided by the league's 50th Anniversary Committee.
Duke led all league schools with ten members on the Golden Anniversary team while Clemson and North Carolina were tied for second with seven honorees each. Georgia Tech, Maryland and NC State each had six players selected, followed by Florida State (5), Virginia (4) and Wake Forest with two.
Maryland's six members of the ACC 50th Anniversary Team, all from teams in the 1990s were: Colleen Hurley, Nicole Lantagne, Sherry Smith, Eden Kroeger, Elizabeth Efron and Daune Koester.
Under the guidance of head coach Janice Kruger (who enters her 15th season at Maryland in 2002), the Terrapins won ACC titles in 1990 and 1996, and a regular season title in 1997. Maryland earned four NCAA Tournament berths during that time, and in 1997 became just the 10th Div. I volleyball team in history to record a perfect regular season (25-0).
