Senior Carissa Messimer (Mountaintop, Pa.): Hi fellow Terrapins and Terp fans. All is wonderful here in Chicago. We have only been here for a day and I love it already. The campus is beautiful, the weather is great and I have already located a GREAT frozen yogurt store!! We went for a great run at Lake Michigan and had an intense practice on the turf, and tomorrow we are going into the city for the evening. I believe I speak for the team when I say I can't wait until our first game on Saturday! I promise that we will make all of our dedicated Terp fans very proud this weekend. We miss all of you and can't wait to hear you cheering for us this year...GO TERPS!
Freshman Rachel Mesa (Gaithersburg, Md.): Hello from Chicago. The weather right now is amazing. It is perfect for playing field hockey. The Northwestern campus is beautiful including the cute little town surrounding it. We ran on the edge of Lake Michigan today and across the lake you can see the city. The scenery was breathtaking. It was definitely postcard potential. We met some NHU players in the hotel today and they seemed nice. Too bad they are the enemy for now! Tomorrow is filled with breakfast, videos, practice and touring Chicago. That's all for right now. We all miss you and can't wait to get back to College Park. (Although the weather is nicer here.) Love you Mom and Dad. I'm sorry you could not make it out here to see the exciting city. Wish us luck. Go Terps!!!
R-Freshman Amber McQuillan (Coopersburg, Pa.): Greetings from the Windy City!!! The weather here is such a nice change from College Park and all the humidity. Chicago is absolutely amazing. Now I know why Emily loves it so much. The city is beautiful and the hockey field is right on the beach -- can't get much better than that. You gotta love all the choice of bags different teammates chose to use for their luggage too. Kristin's is a personal favorite with the lovely flower pattern. But anyway, we're all really psyched for our first game on Saturday. We've come such a long way since the beginning of pre-season. We're a brand new team and we can't wait to show the hockey world what Maryland hockey is all about. We miss you all back at home who couldn't be with us but we're thinking about you. Wish us luck! Bye for now Terp Fans!
Freshman Christina Restivo (Parkton, Md.): Greetings to everyone back home in Maryland. Our morning started out with a 6:45 a.m. team breakfast, then leaving College Park at 7:30am. From there we got on the plane and next thing you know we are here in Chicago. We had lunch and then went to the field to play. Starting off with a fartlek, running alongside Lake Michigan got us all in the mood. The weather was beautiful today. We had practice for two hours and adjourned the night together with dinner as a team. After that we were free to shop or just walk around until we had to be in bed. Tomorrow awaits another fun filled day and I can't wait. Miss everyone from home and sends lots of love to my family and friends. Keep reading to see how we do this weekend, we WILL end this weekend on a positive note and start this season off right. See you when we return to College Park!
Sophomore Kristin Harris (Lititz, Pa.): Welcome to the behind the scenes look at what really goes on during an away trip with the field hockey Terps. So far, no major drama or events to report on except for the fight for prime seats in the vans and the rigorous ball hunt. The change in the weather here is welcomed considering the heated pre-season we had this year. You cant get much better than training alongside of beautiful Lake Michigan and walking the streets of Chicago at night. Overall it has been a great bonding experience and is only going to get better with more time. So... future postcards should contain more fun stories and interesting info on the team. Stay Tuned... See you back in College Park!
Freshman Lauren Powley (Mountaintop, Pa.): Hi Mom, Dad and fellow Terp fans. I started off the trip to Chicago with a two-hour nap on the plane ride, which was needed sleep. Since we have been here the sights and weather have been amazing. We made the van ride to our hotel very interesting by asking Andrew questions about his girlfriend in Connecticut. I think he had enough of our comments by the end of the trip! After we made it to the hotel we ventured over to the beautiful turf field and had our first run and practice. The breeze from the lake was a nice change from the humidity in Maryland!! Tomorrow we have another practice and some free time to explore in Chicago! Wish us luck in our games! Miss you all ... GO TERPS!
