COLLEGE PARK, Md. - From Lindsay Davey's three consecutive service aces to begin the final match of Saturday night's Maryland Invitational to Lynnsy Jones' six-point serving string in the third game, the Maryland volleyball team raced past UMBC to clinch championship honors at its own tournament. Maryland beat the Retrievers 30-14, 30-19 and 30-11 as the Terrapins won their third straight game to begin the season.

Jones was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player and Davey joined Jones and Terrapin senior Carey Brennan on the all-tournament team. After Maryland shutout George Washington in three straight games on Friday night, the Terps beat Binghamton in four games on Saturday morning to complete the sweep. Jones, who matched a career-high with 16 kills against the Colonials on Friday, eclipsed her own mark by blasting 18 kills in the matinee win over Binghamton.

Maryland (3-0)never trailed throughout the final match on Saturday while sending UMBC (1-2) to its second straight defeat. Brennan led the Terps with a match-high 12 kills in the tournament finale as the Terps hit .389 as a team and recorded 13 blocks.

The Terrapins opened Saturday's matches with a four-game win over Binghamton, leading two games to none before the Bearcats rallied for a 30-28 win in game three. Maryland won the match 30-20, 30-18, 28-30, 30-18 behind a young lineup featuring prominent performances from sophomore setter Aimee Huddleston, sophomore Jennifer Dewalt, junior Sarah Treadwell and redshirt freshman Stephanie Smith. Huddleston notched the first start of her career while Jones, Dewalt, Treadwell and Smith all registered career matches. Dewalt matched Jones' 18 kills to lead the match while Treadwell added 15 and Smith had 10.

Binghamton's Michele Heck had 16 kills for the Bearcats (0-3) against Maryland. Later in the day, Binghamton lost a five-game thriller to George Washington, 28-30, 30-18, 30-20, 27-30, 15-11. Anne Crocus, named to the all-tournament team, led the Bearcats in their final game with 15 kills and a tournament-high 11 blocks in the single match. Binghamton finished 0-3 in the tournament, but not before pushing the Terps to four games and the Colonials to five on the final day of action.

George Washington (2-1) finished in second place behind the all-tournament play of setter Lauren Dunning and hitter Sarah Hokum. After falling in three games to Maryland on Friday evening, GW beat UMBC on Saturday afternoon, 30-20, 30-22, 28-30, 32-30. Hokum paced the Colonials with 21 kills against the Bearcats, and had 18 against Binghamton. Ruth Lazzari led GW with 21 kills in the win over Binghamton.

UMBC's Taunya Woolery completed the all-tournament team. After skimming past Binghamton in a Friday night thriller, the Retrievers (1-2) lost both of their matches on Saturday to the tournament's champion and runner-up, Maryland and GW.
