COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Carey Brennan (Smithsburg, Md.) recorded 16 kills and just three errors on Saturday morning to help post University of Maryland to its longest win streak since a 25-0 regular season in 1997, as the Terrapins got past Boston College 3-0 in the second round of the Terrapin Invitational.
Maryland's nine-match win streak surpassed an eight-match streak in 2000, and is its best start since the unbeaten regular season five years ago. It is the second-best start to a season in Maryland's NCAA Division I history.
Jennifer Dewalt (Bethlehem, Pa.) added 12 kills and Lynnsy Jones (Castro Valley, Calif.) pitched in 11 as Maryland won the match by scores of 30-25, 31-29, 30-28. Sophomore setter Aimee Huddleston (Keller, Texas) and redshirt freshman Stephanie Smith (Bethesda, Md.) drew starting assignments for the Terps who beat Indiana on Friday night, and will play Loyola Marymount on Saturday evening.
The Terrapins raced to a first game win before surviving a late-game scares from the Eagles in each of the second and third games. A Brennan kill and block by Amanda Ayres (Chesapeake Beach, Md.) and Lindsay Davey (Aurora, Colo.) ended the match and thwarted B.C.'s bid for an upset.
