COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Carey Brennan (Smithsburg, Md.) tallied 16 kills and had a hand in six blocks on Tuesday night to lead University of Maryland to a three-game volleyball sweep of Towson, 30-19, 30-23, 30-21. Maryland won its 11th consecutive match to begin the 2002 season while remaining one of 11 unbeaten teams in America.
Maryland never trailed in the match, and continued what is the third-longest win streak in school history. It is the longest win streak since a 26-game tear in 1997, during which the Terrapins were 25-0 in the regular season.
Brennan, who became the school's all-time kills leader in a 3-2 win over Loyola Marymount last Saturday, committed just four errors in the match, while adding nine digs. She was joined in the kills column by junior Lynnsy Jones (Castro Valley, Calif.) who blasted 11 kills and just one error. Senior setter Lindsay Davey (Aurora, Colo.) set up 38 of the Terps' 49 kills overall, and led Maryland with 16 digs in the match which lasted an hour and 25 minutes.
Towson (9-2) was led by April Hoffman's 11 kills.
The Terrapins travel to the University of Denver Invitational for an opening match on Friday vs. No. 19 Santa Clara. Maryland battles host Denver on Saturday afternoon before facing No. 8 Minnesota in an evening match.
