HARRISONBURG, Va. - Third-ranked Maryland (17-2) scored two second
half goals to defeat James Madison (5-14) 2-1 in field hockey Friday evening
at the JMU Field Hockey Complex.
Freshman Paula Infante (Santiago, Chile/Santiago College) scored the
game-winning goal for the Terrapins on a penalty stroke with 8:09 to play in
the second half.
JMU scored the first goal of the game as time expired at the end of the
first half. Sophomore Casey Cahill (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) scored off a
pass from freshman Baillie Versfeld (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe/Dominion Convent).
The Terrapins tied the game at 16:47 of the second half as junior Anja
Boettcher (Ingolstadt, Germany/Katholische Universitat Eichstaett) knocked
in a rebound off a shot by Infante.
Red-shirt sophomore goalkeeper Lori Amico (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) had
a strong game in goal stopping seven shots for the Dukes. Sophomore
goalkeeper Tori Cano (Sea Cliff, N.Y./North Shore) had one save for the
Terrapins.
Maryland held a 12-1 advantage in penalty corners and 14-6 in shots on goal.
JMU will play its final game of the season on Nov. 2 at 1:00 p.m. at the JMU
Field Hockey Complex. Maryland will next be in action at the ACC
Championships in Charlottesville, Va.
