COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Former Maryland Terrapin Dina Rizzo ('02) scored two goals as the USA women's field hockey team downed Great Britain, 4-0, in the "Friendly in Philly" exhibition contest. The game served as a warm-up for the two teams prior to next week's International Atlantic Cup, Oct. 8-12 in Virginia Beach, Va.
Rizzo (Walpole, Mass.) put the USA up early when she knocked in a penalty corner goal in the 15th minute. Carrie Lingo (Rehoboth Beach, Del.) added to the USA lead eight minutes later before Rizzo added her second goal of the game at the 26-minute mark to give the USA a 3-0 halftime lead. Abbey Woolley (Ocean City, N.J.) concluded the scoring midway through the second half to seal the victory for the USA.
Maryland alum Keli Smith ('01) was also a starter in the match, while Carissa Messimer ('03) made her U.S. senior team debut, entering the contest as a reserve.
The two teams will meet again at the Atlantic Cup, Oct. 8 at 4 p.m. in Virginia Beach. For more information, visit www.usfieldhockey.com.
