The University of Maryland women's volleyball team (14-4, 3-1 ACC) returns to Comcast Center Gymnasium looking to defeat conference foe NC State (6-11, 0-4 ACC) tonight at 7 p.m. Maryland is coming off a road trip to Atlanta, Ga., and Clemson, S.C., where it lost to No. 5 Georgia Tech, 3-1, but defeated Clemson in four games. The Terps are now tied for second place in the ACC behind the undefeated Yellow Jackets.
The Maryland-NC State Series
In matches against NC State, Maryland holds a 29-17 (.630) all-time record in the series that dates back to 1977. The last time NC State defeated the Terps was on Sept. 22, 2001, in Raleigh (30-22, 30-23, 19-30, 30-27), but the Terrapins won both matches last season in three games. The most recent matchup with the Wolfpack was on Nov. 12, 2002, when the Terps prevailed, 30-19, 30-18, 30-19. In that match, Sarah Treadwell led the Terps with a .588 hitting percentage on 10 kills and added 12 digs for a double-double.
Facing The Best
The Terps faced their stiffest competition to date last week in No. 5 Georgia Tech, but did manage to take a game from the Yellow Jackets in O'Keefe Gym. Maryland edged the Jackets 34-32 in game two of the match before eventually being defeated, 3-1, and is the only unranked team to win a game against Georgia Tech this season. Leading the Terps in Atlanta was Lynnsy Jones, who registered a team-high 19 kills to go with eight digs and four blocks, and sophomore middle blockers Stephanie Smith and Rachel Wagener, who each notched 12 kills against the Jackets. Wagener also contributed a match-high 12 blocks, helping the Terps to outblock the nation's No. 5 team, 15-9.
Huddleston Registers Triple-Double
Junior Aimee Huddleston performed a rare feat in the Terps' victory at Clemson on Oct. 4, finishing the match with a triple-double. Huddleston had 49 assists, 11 kills and 10 digs, and also contributed six blocks and a .625 attack percentage. The Terps' setter has handed out 826 assists this season, which ranks her third in the conference in the category. She is second on the team in blocks with 82.
Treadwell, DiLivio Deliver On Defense
Junior outside hitters Maria DiLivio and Sarah Treadwell continue to lead the Terps' passing game with 212 digs each. DiLivio leads the team in digs per game with an average of 3.31, while Treadwell is just behind her with 3.16. The duo is also delivering offensive firepower, as DiLivio is second on the team in kills with 212 and Treadwell has posted 147 on the year.
Jones Tops In Kills, Aces
Senior right side hitter Lynnsy Jones continues to lead the team in kills (238), kills per game (3.72) and service aces (39). In two matches vs. Georgia Tech and Clemson, Jones posted 37 kills (4.62 per game) and four aces to lead the Terps' attack.
Scouting The Wolfpack
NC State enters tonight's match looking for its first conference win. The Wolfpack is 0-4 in the ACC with a 6-11 overall record. Leading her team is freshman outside hitter Julia Reis with 195 kills, followed by Maya Mapp with 146 and Melanie Rowe with 114. Most recently, the Wolfpack dropped a three-game decision to ACC opponent North Carolina, 31-29, 30-21, 30-22. Mary Byrne is in her second season as the head coach of NC State.

Following Tuesday's match against NC State, the Terps will face two conference opponents in College Park on Saturday and Sunday. Maryland will take on Florida State in a 3 p.m. match at Comcast Center Gymnasium on Saturday and then play North Carolina at 5 p.m. on Sunday.
